Jazz Teacher Summit - July 9, 2026

On Thursday, July 9, the ߣ¶ÌÊÓƵ Jazz Institute will present a Jazz Teaching Summit designed for New York State K-12 music teachers who are preparing to teach jazz ensembles. The day-long program of master classes will be taught by the Institute’s faculty including Todd Coolman, Dennis Mackrel, Bill Cunliffe, Russell Haight, James Burton III, Tatum Greenblatt, Brian Carucci and Andrew Lammly. Topics will include rhythm section, brass section, and saxophone section fundamentals. 

Participants will have the chance to attend Institute classes while in session, and the program concludes with a concert featuring the ߣ¶ÌÊÓƵ Jazz Faculty All-Stars.  All activities will be held in the Arthur Zankel Music Center on the ߣ¶ÌÊÓƵ campus in Saratoga Springs, NY and dinner will be included.  The schedule follows below.   

This professional learning opportunity is available at no cost to music educators. Interested teachers must register with the to earn ten (10) continuing teacher and leader education (CTLE) hours.

• 11:30—12:30 pm:  Welcome/Registration – Arthur Zankel Music Center Lobby
• 12:30—1:30 pm: Brass Section Fundamentals with Tatum Greenblatt and James Burton III – Zankel Music Center Room 215
• 1:30—3 pm: Institute Student Combos – Zankel Music Center Lobby
• 3:00—4:00 pm: Rhythm Section Fundamentals with Todd Coolman, Dennis Mackrel, and Bill Cunliffe– Zankel Music Center Room 215 
• 4:00—5:00 pm: Improving your saxophone section’s sound with Russell Haight – Zankel Music Center Room 215
• 5:15—7 pm: Q&A with Andrew Lammly, Brian Carucci, and Bob Halek; working Dinner (provided) – Zankel Music Center Beckerman Rehearsal Room 006
