Senior Recital Audition Protocol
Academic Year 2026-2027

Senior recital auditions are open to all seniors including Music Majors, Music minors, Filene Scholars, and non-majors/non-minors. Due to our large group of graduating Music Majors in Spring 2027, we are adopting a new audition protocol for 2026-2027.

Auditions will be held for eight recital events and one Senior Showcase.

  •   A recital event may feature one (solo) or two (shared) approved students.
  •   The Senior Showcase may feature up to eight seniors.

The full-time performance faculty will follow a rubric to help determine who is granted a solo recital, shared recital, on the senior showcase or waitlisted. Music majors receive first priority for recital placement to complete their capstone and if applicable, be considered for departmental honors.

Approval through audition means a student is ready to present recital-level work. Approval does notguarantee an individual recital or a place in the 8-event calendar. Final placement depends on the student’s attention to meeting deadlines, accompanist availability, production needs, and departmental priorities.

Based upon audition scoring, seniors will be granted one of the following:

  • Individual recital
    • Music Majors must enroll in both MP 375 Senior Recital and MU 363 (Senior Coda). Major – MP 375, Non-major/minor – MP 381
    • Music minors and non-majors enroll in MP 381X.
  • Shared Recital

    • Up to 60 minutes of music
    • Enrollment requirements:
    • 25–30 minutes of music per student
    • no intermission
    • Enrollment requirements for Music majors, minors, and non-majors: MP 381X.
  • Senior Showcase
    • Up to eight seniors
    • tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027
    • Enrollment requirements for Music majors, minors, and non-majors: MP 381X.

  • Waitlist
    • All seniors auditioning will be ranked by score. If a student granted a recital event declines the offer, the panel will approach the next highest scoring senior. All students on the waitlist will be notified if they are granted an event by the end of the fall semester.
