Purim Reflections: Jewish Faculty Discuss Identity, Ethics, & Human Rights

Description:Profs. Adam Tinkle (Media Studies/MDOCS), Laurie Rabinowitz (Ed Studies), Alexandra
Prince (Religious Studies),and moderator Prof. Ben Bogin (Asian Studies) will gather for an informal roundtable onstage at the Wyckoff Center on the eve of Purim,
a Jewish holiday commemorating an averted genocide, to reflect on how their ethnic
and religious traditions and upbringings have helped them understand our troubled
present of xenophobia, state violence, and resistance, against the backdrop of rising antisemitism,
Islamophobia, and white nationalism.

Putting Antibias and Antiracism Theory into Practice with Liz Kleinrock
Date: Wednesday, March 4

Description: Liz Kleinrock (she/her), is a Korean-American, queer, Jewish, antibias and antiracist
author, educator of both children and adults, and creator of K-12 curriculum. She
received the Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching, and delivered her
TED Talk, "How to Teach Kids to Talk about Taboo Topics." She will focus on how educators
can intentionally build classroom cultures that center antiracist pedagogy while navigating
current sociopolitical realities.

From Adversity to Action: How I Learned to Navigate (Dis)ability, Racism, and Family
Mental Illness in Challening Times, a Campus Conversation with James Francisco Bonilla

Description: Author, activist, and scholar James Francisco Bonilla will discuss his memoir An Eye
for an I: Growing Up with Blindness, Bigotry, and Family Mental Illness and share
his experiences navigating (dis)ability, racism, and family mental illness. Bonilla
will be in conversation with faculty members Abel Arango, Violeta Lorenzo, and June
Paul.

"Counted Out" Film Screening

Description: Access to the film trailer is available . The film is meant for everyone to consider how math shapes our lives (from economic opportunity to democracy and
beyond), and our discussion will focus on collective action we as audience members
can take. Please spread the news about the film screening. It is open to all (friends,
colleagues, students, community members). We will have a post-film discussion following
the screening.
